Wrapping Your Item in Carton for Secure Shipping

There are two types of carton board (cardboard) used for shipping and transporting products. One is called corrugated cardboard and the other one is called non-corrugated cardboard. The corrugated cardboard is stronger than the non-corrugated cardboard. The corrugated cardboard is the one you need to use for your delivery.

Before you send your package off for postage, check out this quick step-by-step guide on how to securely package your item in carton to protect it from damage during transport and delivery:

Step 1: 

Determine the inside dimensions of the carton by measuring the length, the width and the depth. 

Step 2: 

Subtract the carton’s depth from the length and width to determine the available space. 

Step 3: 

If your item is larger than the available space, you may need to use multiple smaller boxes. If your item is the same size as the available space, you can use one larger box. 

Step 4: 

You can refer to this list of a few of the most common cardboard box sizes to determine the size of the carton you need to use for the item you are sending:

• 12x12x12 inches
• 16x16x16 inches
• 18x18x18 inches
• 22x22x22 inches
• 24x24x24 inches

Step 5: 

Place your item in the box, filling in any extra space with packing material. 

Step 6: 

When your item is secured, tape the box shut. 

Step 7: 

Apply address labels to both the top and the bottom of the box you are sending. 

Step 8: 

If you are sending your item to a business location, put the business’s postal address on the address label. 

Step 9: 

If you are sending your package to a residence, make sure to put the name and postal address of the recipient on the address label. 

Step 10: 

When shipping to a residence, you may also want to include the name and postal address of the shipper on the address label, along with the name and postal address of the recipient. 

Step 11: 

When shipping to a business location, you may also include the name and address of the shipper on the address label, together with the recipient’s name and postal address. 

Step 12: 

If you are sending your package via air transport, you can put “Air Freight” on the address label. 

Step 13: 

If you are shipping via sea, you may attach “Sea Freight” on the address label. 

Step 14: 

If transporting via truck, you can put “Truck Freight” on the address label. 

Step 15: 

When using a courier to transport and deliver your package, you can include “Courier Freight” on the address label. 

Step 16: 

If you are shipping via other means, you may want to put “Other Freight” on the address label. 

Step 17: 

Tape the address label to the box. 

Step 18: 

And lastly, pack the box with padding and seal it shut.

Now, your package is ready for delivery!
