Packaging for large, heavy or irregular items

Large, heavy or irregularly shaped items need extra attention to packaging and handling. Often they cannot be stacked or placed on conveyor belts during transit therefore it is imparative that the items are packaged appropriately.

• the shipment does not put our courier partner’s employees, receiving customer’s or the public’s Health & Safety at risk
• the shipment does not cause damage to other consignments and/or equipment
• the shipment is delivered to the customer in perfect condition
• the customer complies with National Transport Commission(NTC) Load Restraint Guide relating to Strapping (Australian Standard AS 2400.13 Packaging – Tensional Strapping)
• the shipment is packaged to meet Heavy Vehicle National Law requirements for restraint to alleviate load shift or dislodgement in transit
• the Consignor / Packer meet their obligations. Eg. Chain of Responsibility

ENGINES, ENGINE COMPONENTRY AND INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT

• Industrial Equipment and engines must be shipped in a crate or covered with cardboard panels on each side and top, with edge/corner strengthening and strapped to a pallet
• Items should fit squarely on the pallet, without hanging over the edge where possible
• Items must be held in place by at least 2 horizontal and 2 vertical straps to ensure the items do not shift in transit
• Strapping must be suitably rated for the type of freight being sent (Refer NTC Load Restraint Guide)
• Industrial Equipment and engines must be drained of ALL fluids – oils, fuels etc
• Items must be placed on a pallet large enough so that the items will not tip over in transit

TUBES, TYRES, DRUMS AND OTHER IRREGULAR ITEMS

• All heavy irregular items should be strapped to a pallet. Avoid overhang and make sure the pallet is stackable. Lighter tube-shaped items can be packed in a triangular shipping tube.
• Tyres must be laid sideways on a pallet
• Tyres must have strapping and stretch wrapping to hold items in place on the pallet.  Wrapping MUST include the pallet itself
• Drums must be shipped on a pallet
• Tubes, tyres and drums should fit squarely on the pallet, without hanging over the edge where possible
• Tubes, tyres and drums must be held in place by at least 2 horizontal and 2 vertical straps to ensure the items do not shift in transit
• All strapping must be suitably rated for the type of freight being sent (Refer NTC Load Restraint Guide)
