College football is seeing some minority hiring gains.
Louisville became the fourth major school since Thanksgiving to name an African American head coach with the appointment of Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong.
On Monday, Virginia gave Richmond coach and former UVa defensive coordinator Mike London a five-year contract for $1.7 million a year.
Strong’s hiring brings to 13 the number of minority head coaches in the 120-school Football Bowl Subdivision. That’s a record, though the representation is low in a sport in which nearly two-thirds of all players are minorities. African Americans were named last month to lead programs at Western Kentucky (Willie Taggart) and Memphis (Larry Porter).
