The only thing black radio is caught between is the piped piper cathey hughes, cathy speaks people listen she cries fire people listen and go along with her so called plight, it's been since the 1996 telecomunications act that cathy has aquired many stations, but cathy has seemed to forget one important thing radio has always just wanted to just play the artist, not help pay the artist out their "meaning the radio stations own pocket." now that, that time has come again and will problaly happen cathy is in an uproar, but it was all good when it was just left up to record lables to do so in this country, and i say this country because many other countries already their radio stations pay a percentage to the artists, so this maybe new knowledge to some here in the usa that listen to radio in general, wether it be white or aka don't panic we can't call it black anymore because we have arrived "Urban radio." really means black radio sorry to offened who are in denile about that, but cathy is only using this cry about black/urban radio being in trouble to save her bottom line and that is her "money." nothing more nothing less, the content of socalled urban aka "black radio." has for the past 18 years been reduced to a take what u can get form of radio and don't u dare! complain about it, so those who may be blindly championing her cause like this bill will be a death nail to urban/black radio better do some research on the history of black radio and then you'll see that since the 1996 telecomunications act when cathy huges begain buying many stations and co-opting them all into the same sound or syndication programming up the y-zoo then you'll have a better understanding what cathy's bottom line is with this bill and that is to only keep herself afloat and continue to give radio one markets crap prgrammed radio.

wake up folks.

Type your comment here.

Black Radio is important, and we must save black radio, but black radio has a responsibility to the community they suppose to serve. Black radio is caught between a rook and a hard spot, they serve those that pay the bills, and when they can without offending whites that pay the bills they give the black community some information and some attention. Black folk, it's about the money, and how you spend your dollars with everybody but somebody that look like you.

Rep. John Conyers has always been a dangerous negroe and we have allowed him a continued pass to be the gate keeper for thoses in power. How easily and quickly do we forget, (Adam C Powell, Alcee Hastings, impeach George Bush) check your history and all of you who are old enough will remember that Conyers wanted to go after George Bush, but the political powers pulled him back, black folk wanted the impeach process. Remember Judge Alcee Hastings, Conyers help lead that effort by the Republicans in the house, please do not forget. And most important check out the history of Conyers work against Adam C. Powell that got Conyers a seat on the Judicial Committee in the house as a new congressman.

Therefore, as a Black community we must hold our supposely leaders accountable, whether they are elected, appointed and selected or ordained, the message must be the same, they represent people of color. Becasue for to long we have allowed others to financially control our leaders, by providing them with the financing to stay in office. And therefore your leaders dance to a different tune, and serve two gods.

In conclusion, until we as African Americans begin to work with one another to create wealth, spend our dollars with one another, speak in positive terms about one another, share our dollars with one another about 10 times before that dollar leaves our community then situations like John Conyers will continue out of our control. The African American purchasing power is greater than over twenty nations, but we do not control anytihing, because we give away power.
This black radio issue is just a symptom and characteristic of a systemic disease in the entire African American Community.

Radio Talk Show Host, Community Activist, and Political Consultant

This is the same old story; we are always a day late and a dollar short. Whenever you engage in a business for short term reasons, don't expect long-term results. Participation in Black Radio will have its ups and downs. That appears to be the way free markets work. The result you experience is affected by political factors. President Obama insists on wealth distribution. He did not differentiate between Black or White wealth. Congressman Conyers is a lap dog. He has been instructed to make this happen. Next time, I suggest that you listen to the color of the message; not the color of the messenger.
