Maryland Company Sued for Discrimination

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is suing a Maryland insulation company for discrimination on behalf of four African-American workers.

The suit filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court alleges that a senior manager at Accurate Insulation LLC in Upper Marlboro frequently called the employees “boy.” It also says the workers were told they “haven’t gotten their 40 acres and a mule” — a reference to a proposed government reparations act following slavery.

The complaint also says that one of the employees, a woman, was sexually harassed by a supervisor.

The suit says that workers after filed internal complaints, the company reduced their hours and hired Latinos to replace them.

It says that the four employees were fired after they filed an EEOC complaint.
