Ada M. Fisher, Guest Commentary
As a previous candidate for office at the federal and state levels, I can attest to the fact that it is difficult to comply with the regulations and paperwork which are designed to keep the average American from running who isn’t politically connected or sufficiently networked with the well to do. Having been called on the carpet by the FEC for problems I didn’t cause, ABC’s “20/20” was gracious enough to help me address part of that problem.
The recent revelations about Michael Steele’s campaign difficulties which were allowed to lie dormant for a few years should raise suspicions regarding the motivation behind their release at this particular point in time. Why have President Obama and his campaign records been exempt from scrutiny even though complaints have been filed against them regarding irregularities related to ACORN activities (a group standing to substantially benefit under the stimulus bill), possible foreign donations and questionable donation limits exceeding guidelines in using prepaid credit cards. These represent just a few of the issues democrats have been allowed to skirt with impunity while Republicans are being battered for the public’s reported disdain of George W. Bush.
You know it’s almost like segregation all over again where only one Negro is allowed to advance at a time. Any criticism of “the chosen one” is frowned upon by the media and unquestioning skepticism by his minions of all races, creeds and color. Yet, the sad thing is, the revelations about RNC Chairman Steele will slowly bleed out which can nullify the effectiveness needed to operate the RNC.
If the democrats are behind this, Steele may be forced out with further revelations but the demonization of the Republican Party will continue with each successor elected. This will be an interesting feat during this, African American History Month. For all the vile heaped upon us, the Republicans are never given the credit due for being the party of Lincoln whom Obama seems to revere and quote at every turn, the party formed in opposition to slavery, the party which elected the first blacks to Congress, the party which brought the Equal Opportunity Act, Voting Rights for Women, the Environmental Protection Agency as well as the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments to the constitution or the party of the majority of the US Supreme Court who overturned segregation in Brown vs. the Board of Education in Topeka, KS. Democrats are given a pass not being held accountable for initiating the Jim Crow laws, the Ku Klux Klan, and Poll Taxes designed to keep blacks from voting.
Unfortunately it often looks like the fight is on at “the old plantation” where folks are still wagering on whose Negro can beat the other. Grow up America and hold all to the same standards so that this democracy will be self evident as a continuing beacon of light in a nation where all are held to the same standards and we can be truly be appreciated for our capacity to judge with impartiality and fairness.
