JEANNINE KORANDA, Kansas City Star
- Sen. Oletha Faust-Goudeau took her oath of office this afternoon looking both excited and nervous as she became the first African-American woman to serve in the Kansas Senate.
“It’s kind of like a dream; it didn’t really sink in until now, until today, I mean wow,” she said. “To stand before the people and other senators and family and friends and say ‘I do’ was just an awesome, humbling feeling.”
Faust-Goudeau, a Wichita Democrat, previously served in the House of Representatives. She won the seat previously occupied by Sen. Donald Betts, D-Wichita.
