One of the major issues in the race for Republican National Committee chair has been the party’s struggle to connect with the non-white voters among whom it got crushed last month, and South Carolina chairman Katon Dawson has been forced to defend his membership in a country club that doesn’t admit blacks.
A Dawson supporter this morning sends over an endorsement letter from one of the few African-American members of the RNC, Dr. Ada Fisher of North Carolina, who writes to Dawson:
Under your stewardship South Carolina Republicans won 8 of 9 seats for state wide office, elected the first African American Republican to their state house since Reconstruction, now has a Republican Governor and US Senator, and your state’s Republican National Committeeman, an African American (only one of three blacks to have such a seat during this term) had your support.
Her letter means that two of the three black members of the RNC now back Dawson.
