Justice Thomas breaks custom; forces court to look at Obama citizenship case

James Wright, AFRO

- In a highly unusual move, U.S. Associate Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has asked his colleagues on the court to consider the request of an East Brunswick, N.J. attorney who has filed a lawsuit challenging President-elect Barack Obama’s status as a United States citizen.

Thomas’s action took place after Justice David Souter had rejected a petition known as an application for a stay of writ of certiorari that asked the court to prevent the meeting of the Electoral College on Dec. 15, which will certify Obama as the 44th president of the United States and its first African-American president.

The court has scheduled a Dec. 5 conference on the writ — just 10 days before the Electoral College meets.

The high court’s only African American is bringing the matter to his colleagues as a result of the writ that was filed by attorney Leo Donofrio. Donofrio sued the New Jersey Secretary of State Nina Wells, contending that Obama was not qualified to be on the state’s presidential ballot because of Donofrio’s own questions about Obama citizenship.

Oh well what's new with Justice Thomas, he has been a traitor for the African American from the beginning that is why he was selected in the first place, because he hates the fact that he is BLACK. Now that there is some black man that is higher than him he would be happy to bring him down. Don't worry it won't work. President Elect Oboma is a God sent man. Maybe the Justice don't know that Hawaii is in the United States of America..

I am trying to understand what theory this attorney is using to assert his claim. President-Elect Obama was born to a United States citizen and an African citizen in the United States - Hawaii. I haven't read anywhere that either he or his mother renounced their citizenship when she subsequently married and moved with her 2nd husband to Indonesia.

Why is anyone surprised? The right and a few disgruntled lefties have been asking this questions since the start. People also challenged McCain's proof of citizenship, and he had the Senate do a special resolution/declaration. If this case does proceed and if they decide that Obama is not a natural born citizen, which nullifies previous interpretations of the 14th Amendment, what does that mean? Who is going to lead the country?

Even though most of us hate what Thomas is doing (I am among them), at least this will be settled for once and for all. If the case is not heard, we will be talking about this for Obama's entire presidency and some folks will continue to have doubts. When Obama gets in, he has so many things to deal with already; he needs to be able to focuss on getting this country back on track. Lingering doubts on this issue don't help him ot those who support him. Isn't it funny how losers ALWAYS try to derail the train when it's moving in a positive direction! Settle this nonsense and let's get President-elect Obama sworn in, already!

For someone who was bought and sold in modern day slavery, stop hate 'n. Nobody gives a damn about the opinion of a sore loser who tries uneventfully to continue demonstrating his sour grapes. Go some where and crawl in a hole where you belong. You've disgraced the Court with your ongoing incompetence, and you've disgraced your heritage; it's certainly not black heritage. You disgust me!
