- Gov. Charlie Crist rejected a list of six judges to fill an appeals court vacancy, saying he wanted a black candidate for the post.

The six names given to Crist to fill a slot on the Fifth District Court of Appeals that includes Orange, Brevard, Citrus and Duval counties included two women and four men but no blacks or Hispanics.

Ninth Circuit Chief Judge Belvin Perry, who is black, applied for the post but was not selected by the nominating commission.

“I have been advised that at least three well-qualified African Americans applied for nomination,” Crist wrote to the nominating commission chairman, James Fallace, including Perry.

Crist ordered the commission to meet again to come up with a new list of nominees.

Charlie Crist is one of the few Florida Repubs I can tolerate. I don't know if it is because he is from St. Pete or because he is so tanned or because he actually thinks about the people of the state when making decision.
