Nine people have joined a class-action lawsuit alleging racial discrimination in the state of Iowa’s hiring practices
The nine black Iowans joined 14 plaintiffs who claim that since at least 1995, the state has engaged in racial discrimination and retaliation to deny blacks jobs and promotions.
The lawsuit filed in Polk County District Court was initially filed in 2007 and represents any black person who has faced discrimination by the state in hiring or promotion. It names more than 20 departments or agencies.
State officials have denied the allegations.
