Congressman that referred to Obama as Marxist issues a statement

Statement from Georgia Congressman Paul Broun:

“You may have seen news articles with blaring headlines such as ‘Congressman Warns of Obama Dictatorship’ written by the AP’s Ben Evans with regard to remarks that I recently made regarding statements by our president-elect.

Personally, I think that such headlines are a bit sensationalistic. The focus really should be more on Barack Obama’s remarks than upon what I have said about them.

Mr. Obama certainly did state in a July speech that ‘We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.’

One would think that back in July members of the media should have begun asking Mr. Obama exactly what he meant. Since they did not, I think it is perfectly appropriate for members of Congress to do so. As I serve on the House Committee on Homeland Security, I think it is particularly appropriate for me to raise questions.

Perhaps Mr. Obama’s call for a civilian national security force on par with the authority and funding of the military is innocuous. However, historical examples of such organizations in other countries, present ample cause for concern.

Furthermore, the vicious attacks upon Joe the Plumber, for asking a simple question regarding Obama’s tax plans, and upon Barbara West, the Orlando television reporter who dared to ask the obvious-How is wealth redistribution not a Marxist idea?-and upon her husband as well, cause one to wonder to what extremes the Obama political machine will go to suppress dissent.

Attacking private citizens and members of the media for simply asking questions is hardly a shining example of adherence to democratic principle. Anyone who is not alarmed by such intimidation tactics needs to think again.

I firmly believe that we must not fall victim to the ‘it can’t happen here’ mentality. I adhere to the adage ‘eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.’

By the way, why has no one asked Mr. Obama about the premise of his remark: ‘we cannot continue to rely only on our military’ for national security? As a United States Marine and former Navy medical officer, I take exception to his assertion.

It seems that during the campaign, the ‘mainstream media’ was strangely disinterested in Mr. Obama’s personal history, particularly his long-time associations with the most radical, fringe-elements of the American Left, including those with a history of violence, such as William Ayers, and bitter anti-American rhetoric such as Rev. Wright and Louis Farrakhan. Isn’t it interesting that in the post-election world, these characters have gone public?

As to socialistic/Marxist principles, Mr. Obama’s confiscatory tax and wealth redistribution schemes (once that cat got out of the bag) are a self-indictment. The question by Barbara West was never answered by Joe Biden and has never been answered. It also has never been asked again of Mr. Obama or Mr. Biden by any major journalist. Why not?

Finally, Mr. Obama’s political record shows that he is no friend of the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment is rooted in the understanding of our Founders that only armed citizens can remain truly free.

I never called Mr. Obama a communist, nor did I accuse him of being Hitler, but I do not apologize for stating the obvious: his socialist views are out of the mainstream of American political thought, and history shows that ‘civilian national security forces’ bode ill for citizens.

It is perfectly appropriate for members of Congress, members of the media, and private citizens to hold Mr. Obama accountable for his views and his intentions. When we do, we should not be marginalized.

I hope my concerns are completely unfounded, as I am eager to work with our president-elect when he is constitutionally correct. I hope Mr. Obama will embrace his executive role by becoming a bipartisan leader. I am extremely pleased to witness the election of our nation’s first African American president, and I wish Mr. Obama much success as he leads Americans forward.”

last time i checked, medicare, medicaid, social security, welfarre, VA benefits are unfair redistributions of wealth. most folks who reap the benefits receive way more than they put into the system. These people receive benefits at the expense of hard working productive young people who contribute to a non-existant fund, to support the system. the progressive tax system is also an unfair redistribution of wealth. Why do i have to pay 36% in taxes while the guy next to me pays either 15% or nothing, but yet we receive equal benefit of the tax money in the ability to use the same roads and bridges and receive services provided by the federal govt. $700 B bailouts to the banking system and $85 B bailouts to AIG are also unfair redistributions of wealth . Whatever happened to free markets. and o, please dont let the govt start taking ownership in ford, gm or chrysler, because karl marx would start jumping up and down. why would govt start taking ownership in production and capital systems in the country? i would be more afraid of that sir.

association with william ayers? wow. Let's see. Let's play '6 degrees of William Ayers'. WIlliam Ayers is a Distinguished professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Should we discount the degrees of those who studied under studied under him? William Ayers was educated at Columbia University and Michigan University. Should we sanction these institutions because they train terrorists? William Ayers served on the Woods Fund of Chicago and Annenberg foundation along with president elect barack obama. The presidents of University of Illinois and Northwestern University along with the general counsel of Ameritech (which is now ATT) also served with these gentlemen. Should we boycott these organizations also because their leadership pals around with terrorists? All this pal'ing around between barack and ayers were strictly professional relationships that nothing to do terrorism. If you showed me a picture of barrack and ayers fishing or playing poker with a karl marx book on the table, then i could believe pal'ing around, but until then, these are strictly professional relationships.

Congressman Brown must didn't learn anything from November 4th. This is why the Republican Party is in such mess. Grumpy old white men who think everything belong to them, that is the Republican Party. If Brown was so concern about President -elect Obama stands, wouldn't it been better to go to President-elect Obama's face and stated his concerns. You dragged the man through the mud, then you say oh yea but I hope we can work together and do what's best for this country. I so wish that people like Congressman Brown could understand what is like to be a black man in this country. There were some things I didn't agree with Rev. Wright, but somethings I did agree with. As a 65 year old black man, from the South, I have seen alot. Listening to my father talk about what he dealt with, what his father dealt with, in this country, not some foreign country. People like Brown need to try walking in our shoes. This mess like Ayers, and Joe the unlicense plumber belong right were it were left Nov.4th, that is down the toilet. When people were making threats against Obama's life, I didn't hear a word from this Brown fellow. So excuse me if I don't cry because someone said something bad about Joe the Plumber. I don't recall anyone being arrested for plotting to kill Joe the plumber, do you Mr. Brown? This is what I would have done, as a man, I would have went to President Obama and made all my concerns know to him, the minute I had the chance to. Man to man. Not putting my B.S. in the paper. But I guess Mr. Brown got what he wanted which was some attention. One thing I do agree with Brown about and that is I am so happy to witness the first African American as president of the U.S.A. Never thought, never thought it would happen.
