Man returns shoes, receipt has computer-printed racial slur printed as ‘reason for return’

A Missouri man says when he returned a pair of shoes to a mall store he was given a receipt with a racial slur printed on it.

Keith Slater, 22, of Kansas City said the receipt said “Cust. Dumb” followed by the slur.

Slater said he purchased the shoes at a store called Journeys in the Oak Park Mall, KMBC-TV reported. He decided to return the shoes last weekend after finding the same model for a lower price elsewhere.

By the time he saw what was on the receipt, the store was closed. His mother, Linda, said the whole family was so upset “none of us got any sleep just thinking about it.”

Slater and his parents were eventually told employees entered generic codes for receipts — and apparently the insulting message is in the computer system.

“I’m sure it’s happened before, but this is probably the first time that somebody noticed their receipt and came back and asked about it,” Linda Slater said.

    I hope that more customers stop purchasing from this store. The same White employees that wrote insulting remarks on the receipts of Black customers could give the same bad treatment to White customers. This is bad customer service regardless of the race of the customers or the employees. Employees who exhibit this type of bahvior deserve to be terminated.

    This is the type of immaturity that tries to keep people at war and the world unstable. The key is to remember the ignorance of the past so it can us closer together now. This mistake is in my opinion going to make other shoe stores gain more business helping the economy. Too bad for Journey's they are going to lose business.

    I feel that the employee should be fired and a lawsuit should be filed against the company for racial profiling. This type of profiling should not happen in the work place.
