“Obama Youth — Junior Fraternity Regiment” video – what’s your take?

A Youtube video of middle school students at a Kansas City charter school is making the rounds on the internet. The video shows the students speaking of what Obama has inspired them to become in a stepping routine. The teacher who organized the video has been suspended. What’s your take on the video – is this being blown out of proportion or do you feel that their routine is inappropriate?

Reminds me of the young radical muslims you see in videos wearing fatigues and black clothing expressing derision towards the US i.e. hezbollah, Iranian revolutionary guards, etc

This is an excellent teaching tool. Obama's campaign has inspired new pride within our young Black men. Imagine the effects of his winning the Presidency!

I certainly understand the sentiment and core reasoning behind this type of training, however, I am disgusted that as African American families, we consistent train our children to look beyond their parents for positive role models. Some where, some how our children have to be able to say "...because of my mother, I am inspired to be..." or "...because of my father, I am inspired to be..." or "...because of my parents, I am inspired to be..."

Yes, I understand that we all laud and support Senator Obama for fighting against all odds to achieve what we previously have seen as the impossible. But, he clearly acknowledges that his achievements are supported and undergird by the "village" that began with his family: his mother and grandparents. He knows that without strong parental guidance, he would have faltered.

So, it is ok for us to honor Senator Obama's accomplishments, but this is a bit over the top.
