- The District of Columbia delegation to the Democratic National Convention is counting on Mayor Adrian M. Fenty to advocate for the city’s appeal for congressional voting rights in Denver.
Fenty told The Washington Post on Friday that he endorsed Barack Obama only after the presumptive nominee promised to support D.C. voting rights if he became president.
D.C. Democratic Party Chairwoman Anita Bonds and the lobbying group DC Vote have planned events to raise awareness about the issue during the convention, with a trip to the Denver Mint, a reception and presentations to state delegations.
Fenty also plans to take up other topics during the week. On Sunday, he and D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee are set to appear with leaders from other cities on a panel discussion about education reform.
