- A group of interfaith ministers and Michigan’s oldest African-American newspaper joined a growing chorus of leaders calling on Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to resign, saying the mayor’s mounting legal problems hinder his ability to run Detroit.

A handful of ministers who belong to a community activist organization called the Metropolitan Organizing Strategy Enabling Strength or MOSES, questioned how the mayor could handle criminal charges while running the city.

“This drama is causing national and international damage to the reputation of our home,” said the Rev. Kevin M. Turman, reading from a statement. “This matter is eating away at the heart of our community.”

Also Wednesday, the Michigan Chronicle published a front-page opinion piece under the headline “NO MORE!” The article states Detroit “has reached a state of paralysis” because “the mayor’s personal problems are overshadowing anything he has to say regarding the city,” according to The Detroit News’ reporting partner, WXYZ-TV.
