- Wagner’s Meat Gas Station, located at 2100 Airline Highway, was one of a string of gas providers targeted last week by members of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and those who support the organization’s efforts to protest the damaging effects the rising cost of fuel is having on American families.

“The Southern Christian Leadership Conference – on behalf of the powerless and poor people of this nation – thinks that the skyrocketing gas prices are an injustice to everyday, ordinary citizens,” the Rev. Byron Clay, National Vice President of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, told The Louisiana Weekly Thursday. “We feel that the gas prices are being manipulated and we are sick and tired of it. We concluded that enough is enough and decided to take some actions.”

Those actions will include a March on Washington on Saturday, August 23, organized by a broad-based coalition of organizations that includes the SCLC, AFL-CIO and the National Baptist Convention of America, Clay said.
