Granholm speeds up Kilpatrick request timetable

Associated Press

- Governor Jennifer Granholm has decided to speed up the schedule related to the Detroit City Council’s request to remove Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick from office for misconduct.

The new schedule was detailed Monday in a letter from Granholm legal counsel Kelly Keenan to lawyers for other parties involved in the case.

The letter says that Granholm has concluded it’s in the public interest to accelerate the briefing schedule and to set a definite date for a hearing should one be deemed necessary.

If Granholm decides a hearing is warranted, it would be held Sept. 3.

A lawyer for Kilpatrick wants the governor to wait until the criminal case ends.
