Black buying power touted

- Black Americans buy in big numbers. But product manufacturers aren’t spending enough advertising dollars with the black press and African-American advertising firms, black media and advertising industry professionals said Monday.
African Americans wield about $800 billion in buying power, panelists told attendees of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and Citizenship Education Fund’s 2008 conference at McCormick Place.
For every $25.15 the average white household spends on men’s suits, the average black household spends $30.41, said Hermene Hartman, publisher of N’Digo, a Chicago-based weekly newspaper.
