- The Roswell Beacon, a weekly newspaper in Roswell, Georgia is defending its right to run a cover photo of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama in the cross hairs of a rifle in its May 15th publication. The free weekly is distributed to about 65,000 residents of north Fulton county. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution,the paper’s publisher, John Fredericks, said editorial decisions would not be influenced by “liberal blogger thuggery. Good, bad or ugly, we tell the truth.” Readers of the Daily Kos website were encouraged to contact the publisher, as well as companies that advertise in the Beacon. One advertiser, Holiday Inn, announced it would no longer advertise in the publication.

White Fright? First Dick Morris, and Mike Huckabee, and now this?
This must think “fear of a black planet” was a campaign slogan and not a song.

This was a stupid thing to do. There are plenty of nut cases out there that only need a little push–like a personal message from a magazine cover–to go over the edge.

On the other hand, it is the kind of thing that liberals have been doing to George Bush for years, so I guess it is ok.

i read this newspaper. they do a good job – and if you really want to be scared read the story. there are people out there who are crazy. in this case, it isn’t the publisher or the journalist. it is the people they’re writing about. does silence make bad stuff go away? no way. the truth will help us to overcome racism.
