Radio One purchases parent company of BlackPlanet social networking site

Radio One, Inc. purchased Community Connect Inc., the parent company of social networking sites, BlackPlanet.com, miGente.com and AsianAve.com for $38 million dollars. “CCI is an innovator and pioneer in social networking,” says Alfred Liggins, III, Radio One’s CEO and President. “We believe that they are a great complement to our existing radio, TV, and online properties.”
Radio One, Inc. is the largest radio broadcasting company with a target audience of African-American and urban listeners. In addition to this recent acquisition, Radio One also owns Giant magazine and interests in TVOne and Reach Media, Inc, owner of the Tom Joyner Morning Show.
