Jena protesters are poised to lead U.S. to great change

This has been a particularly good year for black political and cultural consciousness, which means a good year for all of us. It was most evident in the uprising across ethnic lines against radio host Don Imus for calling the women of the Rutgers basketball team “nappy-headed ho’s.” The backlash against Imus quickly evolved into a rejection of the brutal contempt for black people and for women so basic in hip hop. That was followed by a very public rejection of the N-word. And, more recently, the uprising has shown itself in the student protests of the Jena 6.
